Nabothian Cyst Description
(Mucinous Cyst of the Cervix)
Cyst formed from a mucous gland on the cervix, which is the part of the uterus that protrudes into the top of the vagina.
Nabothian Cyst Cause
Often unknown, but probably due to injury or infection that damages one of the mucous secreting glands in the cervix.
Nabothian Cyst Symptom
None. Usually discovered during a routine Pap smear.
Investigation
None necessary.
Nabothian Cyst Treatment
None usually needed, but may be cut open and drained if necessary.
Complications
Rarely, may be responsible for abnormal bleeding.
Prognosis of Nabothian Cyst
Usually remain for many years, but may burst and disappear spontaneously.
