CAUSE for Delirium Tremens
Occurs when an alcoholic is deprived of alcohol and may start within 24 to 72 hours.
Delirium Tremens SYMPTOMS
Mental confusion, tremor, hallucinations, excessive sensitivity to all sensations, body chemistry disturbances, sweating, occasionally seizures and rarely death.
INVESTIGATIONS for Delirium Tremens
Body chemistry disorders detected by blood tests.
Delirium Tremens TREATMENT
Medications to reverse adverse effects of alcohol withdrawal, intravenous fluids and observation in hospital.
PROGNOSIS for Delirium Tremens
Successfully managed in hospital, but may be dangerous in other situations.
