Dermatofibroma - Removal Treatment of (Fibrous Histiocytoma) Dermatofibromas

Firm red to brown nodule that shows dimpling of overlying skin with lateral compression is known as Dermatofibroma. If the skin over a dermatofibroma is squeezed a dimple forms, indicating tethering of the skin to the underlying fibrous tissue.

What does Dermatofibroma look like?

Dermatofibromas contain scar tissue and feel like hard lumps in the skin.

Cause of Dermatofibromas

Cause of Dermatofibromas is not known.

Treatment of Dermatofibromas

A biopsy removes either a portion or all of the nodule for examination under a microscope. Liquid nitrogen freezing destroys only the upper part of the growth. Therefore, the dermatofibroma, after some years, may again become noticeable. Usually any regrowth is slight and can be handled by another freezing. If there is any unusual change or marked regrowth of a dermatofibroma, please contact some dermatologist.
