Home Remedies For Cold
- Yarrow is one of the best diaphoretic herbs available to us and has become a standard remedy for aiding the body in dealing with fevers. For colds it is best combined with other herbs such as peppermint and elderberry. Yarrow is easy to grow and plants are freely available - so grow your own. Make a standard infusion with 3 - 6 teaspoons fresh herb, or 1 - 2 teaspoons dried herb. Take one cup three times a day.
- Garlic, as well as onion, is sometimes taken for the relief of congestion and minor infections. They are good in helping reduce the amount of mucous in the nasal cavities too. Garlic is also said to aid in the cleansing of the body's blood. And, true or not, it has been said that if you cut several onions in half and place them around your home, you and your family will not get any more colds.
- Create high humidity by running hot water in a bathroom with close doors and windows or boiling a kettle of water in a room. This is very effective in the case of deposited mucous layers and sinusitis. It liquefies the plugs of mucous and opens the pores, thus providing relief.
- Steam with Vicks and karvol is equally effective.
- A warm drink soothes the entire respiratory tract.
- Make a powder of borax kheel (heat borax in an iron vessel so that it spreads) and store in a bottle. Take half a gram of this in warm water at least thrice a day.
- Boil 7 black peppers and 7 sugar balls in 250 grams of water. When one-fourth water is left, stop boiling. Drink hot and cover the entire body for ten minutes. Do this twice a day, morning and night. If never accompanies cold, add seven leaves of holy basil in the boil water.
