Taeniasis
What is Taeniasis?
Taeniasis is also known as
Pork tapeworm,
Taenia solium,
Taenia saginata.
Taeniasis is
parasitic
infection of humans with the adult tapeworm of Taenia saginata or Taenia solium.
It occurs worldwide and mostly seen in parts of Eastern Europe, Latin America, Africa, South East Asia.
Causes of Taeniasis
- Taenia is caused by eating raw or undercooked meat of infected animals
- It is caused by
infection with tapeworms of the genus Taenia
Symptoms of Taeniasis
What are the treatments for Taeniasis?
- Give single oral dose of praziquantel (5 or 10 mg/kg) , alternative to this medicine is niclosamide. A single 2-g dose of niclosamide should be given as 4 tablets-500mg each.(for children give 40 to 50 mg/kg once).
