Strongyloidiasis
What is Strongyloidiasis?
Strongyloidiasis is a human parasitic disease caused by the nematode Strongyloides stercoralis. People get the infection
when walking barefoot on contaminated soil. It is mostly found in tropics and common in Africa, including Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia.
Infection normally occurs in crowded, unsanitized populations.
Causes of Strongyloidiasis
- Strongyloidiasis is caused by a soil dwelling nematode helminth, Strongyloides stercoralis.
Symptoms of Strongyloidiasis
- Rash
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
What are the treatments for Strongyloidiasis?
- Medicine ivermectin-
0.2mg/kg
should be given to treat Strongyloidiasis.
- Albendazole- A dose of 400mgs daily for three days should be given.
