What is Rubella?

Rubella is also known as German measles, three-day measles, epidemic roseola.It is an acute contagious viral disease characterized by skin rash and swollen lymph nodes, but generally without fever. Rubella affects the fetus in the areas of vision, hearing, and heart and caused by an RNA virus of the toga virus family.The last major epidemic of rubella in the United States occurred in 1964 and 1965.The virus enters the body through nose or throat and usually transmitted from one person to another through air or by droplets. Rubella is dangerous because it harms to unborn babies.


Causes of Rubella

  • It is caused by a virus which is spread through the air or by close contact.
  • It is caused by a virus called Grubbier

Symptoms of Rubella

  • Flaking, dry skin
  • Red-brown colored Rash
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Swollen glands normally appears behind the ears and at the back of the neck.
  • Reddened eyes

What are the treatments for Rubella?

  • Rubella vaccine- Prescribed to the children's between the age of 12 to 15 months.(Not be given to pregnant women).
  • Give Acetaminophen to reduce fever.
  • Use asprin to reduce the fever.
