What is Hyperlipoproteinemia?
Hyperlipoproteinemia is a genetic disorder of increase in the lipoprotein levels in the blood affecting the cholesterol and triglyceride metabolism in the blood. Hyperlipidemia is most commonly seen in men than women. It may be seen in children and young adults, but is seen more frequently in later life.
Hyperlipoproteinemia is also referred as hyperlipidemia, dyslipidemia.
There are six major types of hyperlipoproteinemia : type I, type IIa, type IIb, type III, type IV, and type V.
Causes of Hyperlipoproteinemia
- Overweight
- Diet with high levels of saturated fats and cholesterol
- Physical inactivity
- High level consumption of alcohol
- Smoking
- Stress
