Coeliac disease- Picture, Symptoms, Cause and Treatment of Coeliac disease
What is Coeliac disease or
glutenenteropathy?
a wasting disease occurring in childhood, an allergic condition in which the intestines are unable to absorb fat.
People commonly affected by Coeliac disease
begins in infancy when the child is weaned, affecting infants and children of both sexes and remaining throughout life.
Part of body involved with Coeliac disease
digestive system.
Symptoms of Coeliac disease
loss of appetite, failure to thrive or weight loss, pains in abdomen, foul-smelling, pale stools, flatulence, dietary deficiencies and possibly anemia. The symptoms appear after the child is introduced to foods containing gluten, which is found in wheat and rye flour. A baby or child who has symptoms of celiac disease should be seen by a doctor.
Treatment of Coeliac disease
consists of eating a gluten-free diet throughout life. The child should start to thrive again once gluten is excluded, but may need vitamin, mineral and iron supplements to regain lost ground.
Cause of Coeliac disease
the cause of coeliac disease is a congenital sensitivity or intolerance to gluten, causing damage to the lining of the intestines. The intestines are then unable to absorb fat, leading to excretion of an excess of fat and then other symptoms described above. There may be a family history of coeliac disease or a link with other allergic conditions.
