What is Brain Tumor?

Symptoms of Brain Tumor

Symptoms are variable, depending on the precise location of the tumor in the brain, and may be slow in onset. They include headache, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, poor coordination, disturbance of vision, weakness affecting one side of the body, mental changes and fits. Sometimes a tumor in a particular site may cause a more definite set of symptoms, leading to its presence being suspected. A person with any symptoms of brain disorder should seek medical advice.

Treatment of Brain Tumor

Depends upon the nature and precise site of the tumor. There are a range of treatments, including surgery, radiotherapy and the use of radioisotopes and chemotherapy. Continuing advances in medicine and surgery mean that more brain tumors can now be treated than was possible in the past.

Cause of Brain Tumor

A brain tumor may arise as a secondary growth, resulting from a malignancy elsewhere in the body, or be a primary tumor. A brain tumor can be a result of TUBERCULOSIS or SYPHILIS and these diseases must obviously be treated if present. Preventative measures are primarily avoidance of the known risk factors associated with cancer. The most significant of these is avoidance of smoking.
